In 1960 the 9th and the 12th were amalgamated at Tidworth Garrison Church, where a plaque reads: "It is not the beginning but the continuing of the same until it be thoroughly finished which yieldeth the true glory".
Army Cadets train twice weekly at their detachments, on the occasional weekend course, and for two weeks in the summer at annual camp.
Annual camp is the highlight of the year in the cadet calendar. Hundreds of cadets and instructors from all over the county attend, and as well as being able to pass a lot more subjects thanks to the extensive training, large-scale exercises and range work, there are also loads of fun activities put on, making it more of a holiday.
Past activities have included adventure training (canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, etc.), mountain biking, roller-blading, trips to theme parks, fighting in CQB (close-quarter battle) simulations, cinema visits, discos, and even trips abroad to tour the battlefields of france and belgium and take part in the Menin Gate parade. Cadets are often provided with impressive NAAFI (social area) facilities, with pool tables, games machines, etc.
